Dear Friends:
The Midway Museum has some exciting news to share! We want you all to be the first to know and possibly support one of the best projects in Liberty County!
As many of you know the Colonial Midway Museum was built in 1957 next to the Old Midway Church, built in 1792. Liberty County is steeped with history and we are so very fortunate to have kept the museum in operation for this long. We are a non-profit organization and we do not get state or federal funding but operate on private donations and small admission fees.
Some of you may have knowledge of the Mills House that is located on the corner of Washington Street and Oglethorpe Highway; if not please drive by and take a look at one of Hinesville’s oldest Victorian homes. It is absolutely amazing!
This past January the Midway Museum Board met, and we had a special guest, Joel Osteen. The Osteen’s have generously given the Mills House to the Midway Museum!
We wish to publicly thank the Osteen Family for their most generous gift.
We are so very excited! This is a win win situation and it is a twofold project. 1) This beautiful old home will make an extraordinary asset to the museum and 2) this amazing house will not be demolished.
Once the Mills House is placed on the museum site, it will hold endless possibilities for the museum. We definitely need a larger gift shop - maybe a country store. Huge rooms available for new exhibits, also historical workshops on colonial living available that will be made available to the public; library with computer terminals for historical research, these are just a few of the ideas we have for the house.
In order to have the house moved to the grounds of the Midway Museum, unfortunately there is enormous cost involved. We are looking at about $150,000. Right now we are looking to obtain $60,000 for the initial phase, which is getting the house to our location.
We would like to extend an invitation to you to help us finance this colossal undertaking. By your generous gifts in the past we have accomplished many things to help promote and preserve the historical education of our community.
We know that the economy is tough for everyone, and we hope that you are selective in choosing who you wish to support. We are asking you to support us. The Midway Museum/Mills House project. We believe that this will be one of the most important historical preservation projects of all times, and you can be a part of it all.
Thank You and God Bless!
