Mornings on Horsebook (by David McCullough)
Why would the Midway Museum carry a book about Theodore Roosevelt? Theodore Roosevelt’s mother was Martha (“Mittie”) Stewart Bulloch, the granddaughter of Liberty County’s General Daniel Stewart. Her mother was married to Georgia Senator John Elliott of Liberty County. Her family ties influenced Roosevelt’s presidency, including his establishment of Yosemite National Park, as Liberty County native and prominent scientist Joseph LeConte was an early California conservationist instrumental in creation of the Sierra Club. This award-winning biography tells the inspiring story of Theodore Roosevelt’s life, and provides new details about his mother Mittie.
